On the 12th Day of Christmas:
TV shows.
To round out my last “12 Days of Christmas” posts, I decided to share the shows that I’ve enjoyed the past year and I’m sure to enjoy in coming year as well.
How I Met Your Mother (aka HIMYM)

I never thought I would love a comedy as much as I loved Friends, yet here I am, smitten with yet another one. Incredible writing, wonderful acting and...
Best Christmas news so far:
I did well enough this semester that I can apply for the nursing placement of my dreams for next summer! Even if I don’t get it, I’m proud that I worked hard and am able to at least have a chance at getting in to the area I want! Woo!
On the 11th Day of Christmas:
Cold Drinks.
Although I love my cups of tea and lattes, I grew especially fond of a few refreshing cold drinks in 2010.
Simple yet incredible. The vanilla vodka + ginger ale cocktail. I woke up many days this past summer craving these refreshing bad boys. Best drink discovery of 2010.
My beloved Caesar. You will always be my number one. For all you Americans out there, I highly recommend...

On the 10th Day of Christmas:
Cute shoes.
I have acquired a lot of shoes in 2010 that I adore- mostly ballet flats, since I’m a flats kind of girl. Here are some that stole my heart (and my money) in the past year.
My Sanouks that are unbelievably comfy and match almost every outfit I put together.
Although I don’t own these particular ones, I found an incredible pair of Bensimon knock-offs and only paid 4...
On the 9th Day of Christmas:
Movies that have entertained me.
2010 brought many movies that made me laugh, cry and have excited me. Although movie theatre prices are a bit ridiculous these days, I still gather my pennies bills to go experience them on the big screen, because really that’s the best way to experience them. Here are some of the movies that I enjoyed in 2010.
Babies
Date Night
127 Hours

On the 8th Day of Christmas
Plaid shirts.
These have fast become a staple in my wardrobe. They are comfy, cozy and can be feminine at the same time. I can dress them up with a nice sweater and pants, or I can wear them with my favorite pair of sweats. Needless to say I am in love.
Update
I made it to Toronto safe and sound. No tears. No bargaining with ticket agents to please get me on a plane, any plane! It’s been a relaxing problem-free trip that doesn’t feel like holiday traveling at all. While I wait for my connection I’ve been thinking about what is to come for the next three weeks and this is what has me most excited:
-visiting with my family and going to...
En Route.
Heading home for the holidays today! I am taking advantage of my last student Christmas vacation and am taking off for three whole weeks. It’ll be filled with lots of food, drinks, laughs and visits with family/friends. I can’t wait! I’ll keep you posted on my travels. Hoping for a delay-free trip, happy co-travelers and speedy check-in lines!

On the 7th Day of Christmas:
Adventures.
2010 was the place for many new adventures and experiences. From traveling overseas to visit an unbelievable city, to mountain getaways, visits with old friends and a wonderful trip home to the east coast- all of these adventures made my year extremely exciting.
Hong Kong/China:
This was by far the biggest adventure of 2010 and although it only lasted 9 days, it was filled with...

On the 6th Day of Christmas:
Fish Tacos.
I first tried this recipe when Joey was away in Hong Kong and I instantly fell in love. It is everything a taco should be- and more. It has since become a staple in our house and couldn’t help but share this amazing recipe with everyone.
Ingredients
2 Chilean Hass avocados
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 pound firm white fish, such as cod or halibut, cut into 2-inch chunks
1/4...

On the 5th Day of Christmas:
Soul Mates.
I’m lucky to have a number of people in my life who I consider to be my soul mates. People who have surpassed the title of “friend”, “best friend”, “boyfriend” and have become permanent fixtures in my life. Here are just a few of those people who have made my life better in 2010 and who are reminders of what’s really important.

On the 4th Day of Christmas:
Wonderful blogs.
There are a number of places on the internet where I go to find inspiration, laughs, pretty images, recipes, news, celebrity gossip, something that I know will make me smile- you name it. Here are a list of just a few of my most viewed sites from 2010:
Non-Tumblr Sites:
-A Cup of Jo
-Food Gawker
-The Big Picture
-I’m Not Obsessed
-thxthxthx- a thank you note a...

On the 3rd Day of Christmas:
Warm Drinks.
It’s a well known fact that I love tea. To be honest I am a bit of a tea-aholic (teaholic?). I love all sorts but this past year I have fallen in love with white tea. It’s “lighter” than other teas in flavor and gives me just enough of a caffeine kick to get me started in the day, but not enough to keep me up all hours of the night if I indulge in some after...

On the 2nd Day of Christmas:
My favorite books.
I have read so so many good ones in 2010, but if I were to choose one favorite then it would be the Millenium Trilogy (ok, so technically that’s three books, but I refuse to pick one as my favorite!). I could not put these down and plowed through them in no time. Definitely a must-read if you haven’t yet picked up this amazing series. My only wish is that there were...
Dear Maintenance Guy:
Although I really appreciate your prompt shoveling when it snows, the fixing of the lock on our outside door that sticks a lot in the winter and also how you keep our building problem-free (for the most part). But it is seriously annoying to hear you scraping the sidewalk for an hour and a half outside my window. Is it really necessary for your shovel to be metal, and for you to insist that it...

On the 1st Day of Christmas:
The most perfect pair of boots.
I decided I would go way back to this time last year and post my all-time favorite boots that I got for Christmas last year. I wore them so much that because of my inability to walk properly (I am a “foot-scuffer”- ask my sister, she can’t stand the way I walk!) they are currently being repaired at the cobbler’s so I don’t have a...
Do you know what's fun?
When you’re house-sitting and for the past two weeks you have gone to said house approximately every other day to check up on it. You have collected mail, did some laundry, postponed fedex deliveries, turned on outside lights and checked the water heater. You have felt like a pretty good house-sitter.
And then you decide to go check on the house briefly for a study break before your two...
12 Days of Christmas
I wanted to do a post about “things I am grateful for” from 2010 since the holidays are the beginning of the end of this year. So I’ve decided that for the 12 days leading up to Christmas I am going to post something I loved about 2010- whether it’s my favorite sweater, a recipe or some very special people. So stay tuned- starting on December 13th, I’ll be counting...
A Friday List:
- I do not agree with people typing “hehe” versus “haha”- it irritates me to no end.
-It doesn’t matter how early I get up, I am always on the verge of being late (running out the door last minute, nearly missing my bus, forgetting something and having to go back to get it.. you get the picture!).
-Although prairie weather is better for my hair in the warmer months...
Since you've been gone, tumblr,
I have discovered that I am still able to find places on the internet to keep me from doing actual work. Looks like I gave you far too much credit for my lack of productivity some days. Also- thank you for coming back and for not losing all of my posts. For the past 24+ hours I was worried that I may have to start this little blog from scratch (and have since looked into backing up all 1307 posts...
The worst thing about reading an amazing book
is trying to find one to read after it.
I just finished the Millenium Triology and I loved every second of all three books. I’m so sad that I no longer have Blomkvist and Salander to keep me company while I try to fall asleep. At least I have the movies to look forward to (I am eagerly waiting for Joey to finish them as well so we can get started on the movies!).
In an attempt to fill the...
The end of Santa.
I remember the day I stopped believing in Santa Claus. It was thanks to a particular girl when I was 8 or 9 years old.
There was a girl, let’s call her L., who in grade four was a bit of a brat. But she was also in my little circle of friends. One day during recess we were talking about Santa and she told me, “I know for a fact that Santa doesn’t exist.” My innocent ears...
Wednesday Fun Fact:
At one point in my life I was officially banned from a city. Yup, little old me was banned from an entire city and told to never, ever return. Kingston, NY to be exact. I was 20 years old and had Christine at my side (she also was banned.. so I wasn’t alone!). Who knew that you could actually be banned (shunned?) from ever returning to an entire city?
True story.
